Seed Industry Fairness, Competition Discussion Tonight

Iowa Ag Connection - 09/11/2008

The Organization for Competitive Markets (OCM) is sponsoring an event at the Clay County Fair to raise awareness about concentration of market power in the seed industry and the impacts on rural Iowa. The event, "Taking it Back: Bringing Fairness and Competition Back to the Seed Industry for Our Farmers," will be held tonight in the 4H building at the fairgrounds in Spencer, Iowa from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Representatives Marcie Frevert (District 7) and Mark Kuhn (District 14) will co-chair the event, and Iowa Farmers Union and American Corn Growers Association are co-sponsors. The keynote speaker is Fred Kirschenmann of the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture at Iowa State University.

Kirschenmann is a farmer and longtime leader in promoting equitable agricultural systems for American farmers. Those in attendance will be provided a complimentary barbeque and encouraged to engage in dialogue with the political leaders and other guests invited to speak at this important event.
