The Ontario Farm Animal Council is starting to feel better
about Bill 50.
It's the bill going through the legislature - that is
looking to tighten up animal cruelty legislation.
At first - OFAC was worried about loose language - that they
were afraid could be interpreted the wrong way on farms.
They were worried things like hunting dogs, castration or
de-horning could be interpreted as animal cruelty in the new laws.
But as Program Manager Kelly Daynard
says - after talking to the legislative committee reponsible
for the bill - she feels better.
She says based on the questions and response from that
committee - she's optimistic they understand OFAC's
concerns.
The committee will be looking over all those suggestions
making any changes they see necessary and then presenting the bill for third
and final reading in the legislature -- likely this fall.
